It’s Always Been About the Story
My career has followed the path of storytelling. From literature teacher, to fundraiser, to content strategist, one thing has remained constant. I have consistently witnessed the immense power of story. Stories, I have found, change lives and drive action.
Stories have the power to improve lives by offering alternative possibilities.
When I taught literature to at-risk youth, I saw the impact of stories on my gang-related students. The story of a former gang member that became a fire chief. The story of another former gang member that went from prison to college to becoming their teacher.
When these storytellers came into the classroom, tough kids went silent. They sat in rapt attention, absorbing every word. Many of those kids went on to college. Many more moved away, got jobs, and started families. Instead of lives filled with crime, court dates, and violence, these kids chose an alternative. An alternative they saw in the stories these role models told.
Stories have the power to end poverty.
I worked for two years as a content marketer for a nonprofit. That’s where I saw stories build connections between cultures across continents. I saw stories drive people to support development projects in Africa. I saw stories cause people to help people they never met, and never would meet. I saw people rise from poverty because of the power of story.
The beneficiary stories I told led to 75% growth in individual donations in one year. I also saw a 353% average yearly increase of new grassroots donors. All from telling the right stories to the right audience.

Today I tell stories based on content strategy. Each blog post, social post, or sales sheet I develop describes a better future for a specific audience. Each piece of content reinforces a specific story and a specific brand identity. This market research based storytelling approach helps my clients grow their businesses.
